About Pashmina Studio: a family cashmere business since 1982
Pashmina Studio is a second-generation family cashmere business from Kathmandu. We have worked in cashmere in the Kathmandu valley since 1982. Today, as cashmere specialists, we develop and supply woven and knitted cashmere for brands, retailers and gifting buyers around the world, produced with trusted partner workshops and factories we have worked with for years.
Our story
A shop in Paltan Ghar
Two brothers, Rajendra Man Singh Basnyat and Rabindra Man Singh Basnyat, broke with a family tradition of army and government service and opened a pashmina shop in Paltan Ghar, their ancestral house of more than two centuries, in Ason, Kel Tole — one of Kathmandu’s oldest and busiest markets.
From selling to sourcing
The business began working directly with weavers and finishers in the Kathmandu valley, developing products with them instead of only buying finished stock. Those relationships are the core of what we do today.
Knitting joins weaving
Knitted cashmere was added to meet demand for knitwear, working with partner workshops whose skilled knitters and menders are mostly women. Meet the work.
Second generation, working worldwide
The second generation runs the business from Sanepa Chowk, Lalitpur, developing and supplying woven and knitted cashmere for brands, boutiques and gifting buyers abroad, and collaborating with artists such as thangka master Romio Shrestha.

What we do not claim

Do you own a factory?
No. Pashmina Studio is a cashmere specialist and trader. Weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and mending are done by trusted partner workshops and factories in and around the Kathmandu valley; we develop the product, check quality and handle export. Yarn is bought from spinners.
Start a project with us
Standard minimum: 50 pieces per style and colour. Production takes 45–60 working days after sample approval. Sampling is charged at 2× unit cost and deducted from the bulk order under the agreed terms.
